President's Message
Dear Members
Your executive has tossed an idea around for two months without a final resolution. Ken Carter brought up the
subject and all of us agree with his comments. Ken's suggestion was that we take some of the extra money in
the bank and term deposits and that we spend some of it in ways to better the hobby of numismatics. This, of
course, caused the discussion to flow. Most of the discussion was in the direction of encouraging younger people
to start the hobby and to keep them interested in continuing collecting. We looked at beefing up our coins
for kids give-aways at the September Coin Show and of looking at ways of maybe promoting a contest in the
schools about various coins; ie. who, what, where, and why. We have not come up with a plan of action yet
and we are asking our members to give us ideas, any ideas on how we should proceed. Let's see the imaginations
run wild. All ideas can be discussed with any executive member and they will be taken to the next executive
meeting.
The other items we have discussed are the up coming shows for May and June, and the are respectively, the
coinage of the Zuid Afrikaansche Republiek, which led to Britain's nearly last colonial war, the Boer War. The
talk will be by Tom Deeth and the coins supplied by Owen Wright; the second program, for June, will be a
bourse and pizza night. Any member is encouraged to bring in coins for sale or trade and it is to be fun night.
As has been the practice in the past, we will not have meetings in the summer months of July and August but
the executive will meet to hammer out the September coin show details and planning.
